Itās one small flight for Blue Origin⦠and one giant leap for women in space. š
This morning (Monday), Blue Origin launched a truly historic space mission ā an all-female crew aboard the New Shepard suborbital rocket, making it the first spaceflight crewed entirely by women since Soviet cosmonaut Valentina Tereshkovaās solo mission in 1963. Thatās over 60 years in the making.
The powerful passenger lineup includes:
š¤ Katy Perry ā global pop icon
šļø Gayle King ā broadcast journalist and cultural force
š§ Aisha Bowe ā former NASA rocket scientist and aerospace pioneer
ā Amanda Nguyen ā civil rights activist and bioastronautics researcher
š¬ Kerianne Flynn ā film producer with a mission to tell untold stories
š Lauren SĆ”nchez ā journalist and philanthropist, and fiancĆ©e to Blue Origin founder Jeff Bezos
The launch takes place at Launch Site One in West Texas, with the New Shepard vehicle reaching the KĆ”rmĆ”n line ā 62 miles above Earth, the internationally recognized edge of space. š The mission is expected to last about 11 minutes, offering passengers a moment of weightlessness and a breathtaking view of Earth.
This isnāt just a pop culture moment ā itās history in motion. š°ļø These women come from entertainment, science, journalism, and activism, proving that space isnāt reserved for one kind of person ā itās for all of us.
Letās be real: seeing women from all walks of life look down on Earth together? Itās the kind of energy we love to see. šāØ
