Jennifer Lopez got a standing ovation for her new movie Kiss of the Spider Woman at the Sundance Film Festival, and got emotional after its debut.
Per Variety, Lopez fought back tears as she said, "I’ve been waiting for this moment my whole life. The reason I even wanted to be in this business is because my mom would sit me in front of the TV and [West Side Story] would come on once a year. I was mesmerized and was like, 'That’s what I want to do.' This is the first time I actually got to do it. This man made my dream come true."
The "man" Jennifer was referring to is the film's director, Bill Condon, who has worked on other movie musicals including Chicago, Dreamgirls, The Greatest Showman and more.
The newest on-screen iteration Kiss of the Spider Woman was adapted from a musical that was originally adapted from a book, and serves as the second film adaption. The movie stars Lopez, Diego Luna, Tonatiuh and Tony Dovolani, among others and takes place in an Argentinian prison. As per its IMBD page, the movie follows Valentín (Luna), a political prisoner, shares a cell with Molina (Tonatiuh), convicted for public indecency. An unlikely bond forms as Molina recounts a Hollywood musical plot starring Ingrid Luna (Lopez).
