There's a call in New York for Governor Kathy Hochul to bring in the National Guard to help with the shortage of school bus drivers.

The number of drivers in New York State is down 15 to 20 % and it's also an issue nationwide. Massachusetts Governor Charlie Baker announced earlier this week that he is activating 250 Guard troops to drive vans to transport students. Now, State Assemblymen Michael Lawler of Rockland County and Al Stirpe of Onondaga County are calling for similar action in the Empire State. There had already been a shortage of school bus drivers before the pandemic, which has only made the problem worse.
