For Immediate release

Catskill, NY

A three-month-old puppy named Rudy is recovering at the Columbia-Greene Humane Society/SPCA after being found abandoned on the side of a road with a broken leg. Rudy was found by a concerned citizen on Monday, December 9. The puppy was heard crying and found immobile on the side of Thompson Street, a well-traveled road in the Village of Catskill.

The good Samaritan contacted Catskill Dog Control officers who brought Rudy to a veterinarian. Upon examination, it was discovered that Rudy’s right front leg was fractured. He received a splint, and may require orthopedic surgery to repair his leg. He was transferred to the Columbia-Greene Humane Society/SPCA where he will begin his rehabilitation.

To abandon a cat or dog in a public place or street is a class A misdemeanor and is punishable by a year in jail and/or a $1,000 fine. If anyone has information on who may have abandoned Rudy, please contact the Greene County Sheriff’s Office at (518) 943-3300.

The Columbia-Greene Humane Society/SPCA is seeking donations to help with Rudy’s rehabilitation and potential surgery. For more information, please call (518) 828-6044 or visit the shelter’s website at cghs.org. Donations can be mailed as well, addressed to:
