Edith Casey Stocking fund reaches 99 years

99th ANNUAL EDITH CASEY CHRISTMAS STOCKING FUND

1920 – 2019

The Edith Casey Christmas Stocking Fund is a year-round fund administered by the Columbia County Department of Social Services. The Fund was named after Miss Edith Casey, who in 1920 was an agent with the Columbia County Committee of State Charities (now the Columbia County Department of Social Services). The mission of the fund is to provide assistance for individuals and families experiencing hard times, especially during the holiday season, by providing gifts for children. During the 2018 holiday season, 942 children received gifts from the Fund. In addition, the Fund is available throughout the year to help needy families and individuals cover prescription drug costs, and other emergency household expenses that are not covered by existing resources.

While the Department of Social Services administers the fund, many public/private organizations, individual donors and volunteers are instrumental in its operation and success.

The Fund is largely dependent on donations from the community and all proceeds benefit those individuals and families residing in Columbia County only.
