SHERIFF’S OFFICE INVESTIGATES CLERMONT HOMICIDE
Clermont, NY- Columbia County Sheriff David P. Bartlett reports that on Sunday, November 03, 2019 at about 1:32am, Sheriff’s Patrols were dispatched by Columbia County 911 to 120 Pleasant Vale Road in the Town of Clermont for a male subject outside the residence with stab wounds.
When Deputies arrived at the residence they found two male individuals in the front yard. One male was lying on his back and appeared to be injured and the other male was kneeling over him. The Deputies quickly detained the uninjured male and immediately started to render first aid to the injured party. NDP (Northern Dutchess Paramedics) arrived on the scene and continued with emergency medical aid to the victim.
The victim, identified as 43 year old Glenn Unson of Clermont, was suffering from knife wounds to his chest and abdomen area. As life-saving efforts were continuing, Mr. Unson went into cardiac arrest and succumbed to his injuries.
Members of the Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigative Branch responded to the scene and continued with the investigation. Investigators were able to determine that Mr. Unson was stabbed at a secondary location, which is located in the area of State Route 9 at the intersection of Pleasant Vale Road. Subsequently, the victim was driven to the address of the initial call. The investigation also revealed that the individual detained by the Sheriff’s Office was the person responsible for stabbing Mr. Unson. The victim and the suspect were together in a vehicle when an altercation occurred and Unson was stabbed.
The New York State Police Forensic Investigative Unit, along with uniformed Troopers, were called in to assist with the two crime scenes. Columbia County District Attorney Paul Czajka responded to scene and his Office is assisting with the investigation. Columbia County Coroner Bernadette Powis assisted at the scene.
Robert Streib, 36 years old, of Red Hook NY, was arrested at 12:57pm and charged with Murder in the Second Degree, a Class A-1 Felony. Mr. Streib is due to be arraigned later this afternoon.
Sheriff David Bartlett states, “At no time was there a danger to the community and the investigation has shown that this was not a random act since both parties were known to each other.”
District Attorney Czajka, who as usual had arrived on the scene soon after the Deputies and the Sheriff, “I commend the Sheriff and Senior Investigator Skype for their prompt response and for seeking assistance from the NYSP FIU.”
