Horrific machete attack leaves 1 in hospital, 1 in jail

From Saugerties Police:

On October 30, 2019 at 9:21PM, Saugerties Police responded to 1 Clermont Street in the Village of Saugerties for a report of a man who had been attacked with a Machete.

Upon the arrival of officers, the victim a 25-year-old male was found bleeding profusely, having suffered multiple lacerations to his arms and legs, in addition to three partially amputated fingers. Witness told police that the man had been attacked by another individual who was wielding a Machete.

Witnesses identified the attacker as 35-year-old Anthony Cunningham, a tenant from the same apartment building as the victim. According to witnesses Cunningham fled the scene prior to the arrival of police. Saugerties Police with the assistance from the New York State Police and Ulster County Sheriff’s Office conducted a search within the Village of Saugerties attempting to locate Cunningham.

Approximately 90 minutes after the incident occurred, a Saugerties Police K9 Unit located Cunningham on West Bridge Street, taking Cunningham into custody.

The Victim was treated at the scene by paramedics from DIAZ Ambulance and transported to the Mid-Hudson Regional Hospital, Westchester Medical Center Campus in Poughkeepsie for treatment of his injuries which were severe in nature. The Victim was listed in stable condition.

Cunningham was processed at Saugerties Police Headquarters on the Class B-Felonies of Burglary in the first degree, Assault in the First Degree and the Misdemeanor of Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Fourth Degree. Cunningham was arraigned in the Village of Saugerties Justice Court and remanded to the Ulster County Jail in Lieu of $100,000 Cash Bail / $250,000 bond.
