Valatie bridge to be dedicated Saturday for village war hero

Saturday, September 14: Assemblyman Jake Ashby and Senator Daphne Jordan will formally dedicate The Roger J. Mazal Memorial Bridge in Valatie to honor an American hero

Valatie, NY – New York State Assemblyman Jake Ashby (R,C,I,Ref-Castleton) and New York State Senator Daphne Jordan (R,C,I,Ref-Halfmoon), will hold a special event formallydedicating The Roger J. Mazal Memorial Bridge in Valatie tomorrow morning, Saturday, September 14, at 11 a.m.

The Roger Mazal Memorial Bridge is the overpass on Route 203 in Valatie crossing the Kline Kill. Assemblyman Ashby and Senator Jordan sponsored the new state law naming the bridge after Roger Mazal, a Valatie native killed in action during the Vietnam War. Local officials and members of the Mazal Family will join Assemblyman Ashby and Senator Jordan for tomorrow’s dedication ceremony. Governor Cuomo signed Assemblyman Ashby and Senator Jordan’s legislation into law on August 2, 2019.

Valatie native Roger Mazal is an American patriot who gave his life in service to our country. Specialist 4 Roger Mazal was a highly decorated member of America’s armed forces killed in action March 7, 1969, at 20 years of age in the Pleiku province in Vietnam while serving as a member of Company D, 2nd Battalion, 35th Infantry Regiment, 4th Infantry Division of the United States Army.
