Illegal assault rifle found during Philmont fire

PRESS RELEASE

Philmont, New York – On September 3, 2019, the New York State Police from the Livingston barracks arrested Samuel C. Wright, age 30, of Philmont, for Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the 3rd degree, a class D felony.

On September 2, 2019, Troopers were dispatched to a structure fire on Main Street in Philmont. After the flames had been extinguished by Philmont and Claverack Fire Departments, a Keltec sub 2000 assault weapon was located by firemen. Investigation found the assault weapon, owned by Wright, was possessed illegally in the State of New York.

Wright was arraigned before the village of Philmont Court, and release on his own recognizance. Wright is next scheduled to reappear before the Court on September 26, 2019, at 6:00 p.m.
