Suspicious vehicle complaint ends with Palenville man in jail

The Ulster Police Department reports the arrest of a Palenville man following an investigation into a suspicious vehicle complaint which occurred on Chandler Drive in the Town of Ulster.

Arrested on August 2, 2019 at 8:55 PM was JAMES M. VANVALKENBURG, 48 years of age who resides in Palenville, New York.

An Ulster Police Department STOP DWI encountered a vehicle parked on the shoulder of Chandler Drive. The vehicle was occupied and its engine was engaged and the vehicle’s turn signal was flashing. VanValkenburg was determined to be the operator and subsequently found to be in an intoxicated condition and in possession of a quantity of marihuana. Additionally, a New York State Department of Motor Vehicle record check of VanValkenburg revealed that his privilege to operate a motor vehicle was suspended.

VanValkenburg was charged with the FELONY of aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle in the 1st degree and the MISDEEMANOR of driving while ability impaired by drugs. VanValkenburg was also charged with the TRAFFIC INFRACTION of stopping, standing, or parking on a highway.

VanValkenburg was arraigned in the Town of Ulster Justice Court before Town of Ulster Town Justice Marsha Weiss who remanded him to the Ulster County Jail in lieu of bail.

VanValkenburg is to reappear back in the Town of Ulster Justice Court on a future date.
