State Department of Transportation Begins Construction on Route 66 Bridge Over Kline Kill Creek, Columbia County
Safety Enhancement Project to Provide Smoother Driving Surface
The New York State Department of Transportation today announced construction is underway on a $1.4 million project to rehabilitate the Route 66 bridge over Kline Kill Creek in the town of Ghent, Columbia County. The project includes completely replacing the bridge deck and approach slabs, bearings and bridge rails, with minor steel and substructure repairs. The enhancements will provide a smoother riding surface and will modernize the structure, supporting the growth and success of the local community. All work is expected to be completed this fall.
Route 66 will be closed while the bridge deck is replaced. An off-site detour will be in place from the end of June through August. The bridge will reopen to traffic before the Columbia County Fair begins. The detour, which runs along County Route 9 and State Route 203, is approximately four miles long.
Motorists are reminded that fines are doubled for speeding in work zones. In accordance with the Work Zone Safety Act of 2005, convictions of two or more speeding violations in a work zone could result in the suspension of an individual’s driver’s license.
