Man accused of trashing Tivoli Church, stealing items

GEORGIA MAN JAILED AFTER DAMAGING CHURCH

On Wednesday May 8, 2019 at 2:50 pm the Red Hook Police arrested Stanley Miller Jr. 22 of Georgia and charged him with criminal mischief, a felony as well as other charges that are pending.

Police originally responded to a report of a possible burglary in progress in St. Sylvias Church on Broadway in the Village of Tivoli at approximately 1:35 pm. Upon arrival to the scene responding officers were provided information that someone had entered the church, damaged a large statue estimated at 125-150 yrs old, stole property and damaged other items throughout the church.

Officer at the scene observed a man walking near a wooded area from behind the church which matched the description given by a witness of someone they observed in the area earlier in the day. Upon interview the officers determined that the male was the perpetrator involved in the damage to the church.

Miller was arraigned in the Town of Red Hook Court and remanded to the Dutchess County Jail.
