Red Hook couple accused of stealing $50,000 from people they cared for

Rhinebeck, New York – On April 22, 2019, the New York State Police from the Rhinebeck barracks arrested a Red Hook, NY, couple for felony fraud and theft charges.

Shelby M. Blanchard, age 32, was arrested for Grand Larceny in the 2nd degree, a class C felony, four counts of Possession of a Forged Instrument in the 2nd degree, a class D felony, fourteen counts of Identity Theft in the 2nd degree, a class E felony, and three hundred and fifty-six counts of Identity Theft in the 3rd degree, a class A misdemeanor.

Alan W. Blanchard, age 35, was arrested for Identity Theft in the 3rd degree, Unlawful Possession of Personal Identification in the 3rd degree, Petit Larceny, all class A misdemeanors, and Conspiracy in the 6th degree, a class B misdemeanor.

Investigation revealed the Blanchard’s were employed by the victims in a caretaking capacity, and used their positions to gain access to financial accounts belonging to the victims. Over the course of two years the Blanchard’s stole over $50,000 U.S. dollars via financial institution bank/credit cards, personal checks, and automatic teller withdrawals from accounts belonging to the victim.

Alan Blanchard was issued an appearance ticket returnable to the town of Rhinebeck Court on May 9, 2019, at 5:00 p.m.

Shelby Blanchard was arraigned before the town of Rhinebeck Court, and remanded by the Honorable Judge Kane to the Dutchess County Jail in lieu of $5,000 cash bail or $10,000 secure bond. Shelby Blanchard is next scheduled to appear before the Court on April 26, 2019, at 10:00 a.m.
