Germantown "odyssey of the mind" team going to world finals

The Germantown PTSA's Odyssey of the Mind program is excited to announce that its Division I: "Structure Toss" team won 3rd place at the recent NY State Tournament and will be advancing to the World Finals. Additionally, the team was one of only three teams to earn the Ranatra Fusca Creativity Award. This award is given to a team or individual for demonstrating exceptional creativity, either through some aspect of their problem solution, or an extraordinary idea beyond the problem solution.

Odyssey of the Mind is an international problem solving competition that encourages creative thinking, risk-taking, and teamwork as students develop solutions to dramatic or technical problems.

Alan, Beatrice, Juliana, Khloe, Kian, Myles, and Whitt have been working hard for the last five months. This team designed and built an 8" balsa wood structure that weighs less than 15 grams, which held 466 lbs at the State Tournament. They also created a skit, props and carnival games in the theme of Cats in Paris ("Purr-isian"). Every aspect of the 8-minute solution from the script to the costumes are student-developed.

The World Finals tournament is being held from May 22nd-May 25th, 2019 at Michigan State University. Please consider helping the team of 2nd, 4th, and 5th graders get to World Finals. All donations will go towards covering the students' travel costs.
