Greene County now housing inmates in Albany County, instead of Ulster

Greene County has stopped housing inmates at the Ulster County Jail, and instead, starting housing them in Albany County.

We asked Sheriff Greg Seeley this afternoon, why the change. He said the cost of the two jails is the same, but Albany is closer.

The Kingston Freeman reports that Ulster County will lose 730,000 dollars this year because of the switch.

Greene County began housing their inmates in Columbia and Ulster last year, when their jail was closed for safety reasons.

Construction of the new Greene County Jail in Coxsackie, is still in the planning stages.
