Man who raped camp counselor going to prison

The man who raped a camp counselor in Copake last summer was sentenced yesterday in Columbia County Court. The Columbia County D.A.'s office says 25 year old Saury Minaya will serve five years in prison and seven years post release supervision.

Copake, New York – 

On July 22, 2018, the New York State Police arrested Saury Minaya, age 24, of the Dominican Republic, for Rape in the 1st degree, a class B felony.

On July 22, 2018, at approximately 1:00 p.m., Troopers and Investigators from SP Livingston responded to Berkshire Hills Eisenberg Camp on Empire Road in the town of Copake for a report of sexual assault. Investigation found the suspect Minaya, and the victim were both counselors at the Camp. 

The investigation also revealed that no children at the camp were endangered. Minaya was arraigned before the town of Claverack Court, and remanded to the Columbia County Jail without bail. Minaya was next scheduled to appear before the Columbia County Court on July 23, 2018, at 3:00 p.m.
