Stolen vehicle recovered in Valatie, man arrested

SHERIFF’S DEPUTIES LOCATE STOLEN VEHICLE

Valatie, NY- Sheriff David P. Bartlett reports that 21 year old Treyvon M. Whittaker of Canaan, NY has been arrested and charged with Criminal Possession of Stolen Property in the Third Degree (class D Felony), Aggravated Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle in the Third Degree (class U Misdemeanor), and Unlawful Possession of Marijuana (Violation), in connection with a stolen vehicle from the City of Troy.

At approximately 12:10pm on December 29, 2018, Sheriff’s Deputies were advised by the City of Troy Police Department that a blue 2017 Kia Optima was stolen the previous day from Troy. Deputies quickly located the stolen vehicle while it was attempting to pull out onto State Route 9 from a private driveway in the Village of Valatie. Mr. Whittaker, the driver of the vehicle, was taken into custody without incident. A passenger in the vehicle was released at the scene by deputies after it was determined that he had no connection to the crime.

The defendant was arraigned in Kinderhook Town Court by the Hon. Judge Mills and remanded to the Columbia County Jail in lieu of $1,000 bail or $1,000 bond. Mr. Whittaker is scheduled to appear back in Kinderhook Town Court at a later date.
