About the Play, the Playwright, and Cast

“Wandering Lies” involves a curious woman who calls her deceased mother’s old phone number. She and the stranger who answers reveal family secrets, but unbeknownst to them, her mother and his father are eavesdropping and carry on a conversation of their own. Playwright Kim Sykes (Narrator) has written four plays, and as an actor has guest starred on Homeland and recurred on The Affair for Showtime and as Judge Foley on BULL for CBS-TV. Her plays combine dramatic and comedic elements. She says, “My writing addresses primarily social justice issues concerning women and girls. I write to shift the audience’s perceptions and behaviors about the world we live in, to make a cultural impact and advance social good.”

The cast consists of four actors and a narrator. Samuel Adams (Jake) trained at the London Dramatic Academy, and his recent acting credits include Mozart in Amadeus (Folger Theater) and King Henry in Henry V (Chesapeake Shakespeare Company). Jamilah Rosemond (Leona) is a Haitian American, New York-based actress and the founder of Girls with Beauty and Brains. Michael Arkin (Father) has acted in plays, TV, and film at major venues including La Mama and BAM, and nearby at Capital Rep in Albany. Messeret Stroman Wheeler is winner of an Audelco Award, and her TV roles include The Sopranos and Law and Order, among others.

Actress and playwright Kim Sykes will narrate “Wandering Lies” with a cast of actors from New York City.
