According to Mid-Hudson News,
ALBANY – Governor Kathy Hochul, Tuesday, said she is “absolutely horrified” over the prospect that the Supreme Court will overturn Roe v. Wade, which legalized abortions.
She said New York refuses to “go backwards” on a woman’s right to make her own decisions concerning her body.
“My promise is that here in the State of New York, we will not stand idly by. Anyone who needs care, we welcome you with open arms,” she said. “And remember we legalized abortion in the State of New York three years before Roe v. Wade. We were there for women at the time, and we will be there for them now because we believe that access to reproductive health is a human right, and my administration will do whatever it can to protect that right.”
Newly named Lieutenant Governor Antonio Delgado also has very strong feelings about the issue.
“In seeking to overturn nearly 50 years of precedent the Supreme Court is at once reasserting a social order grounding in patriarchy and dominance over a woman’s body,” he said.
There has been no word as to if and when the Supreme Court will take up the issue.
