CHATHAM—A Chatham man was arrested for stealing two vehicles in a week, the latest time was in the Town of Chatham.
The arrest took place July 22 at 5:16 p.m., according to a press release from Sheriff David P. Bartlett.
Deputies and Greenport Police on patrol in Greenport came into contact with Trevor J. Brodowski, 42, of Chatham.
During the encounter with Mr. Brodowski, it was determined that he was allegedly in possession of a vehicle that he had stolen earlier in the day from Crellin Park in Chatham.
The owner of the vehicle, a 2001 Honda, was at the park and was unaware that his vehicle was stolen until deputies located him and told him that his vehicle was found in Greenport.
Mr. Brodowski was charged with fourth degree grand larceny, a class E felony; second degree aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, a class U misdemeanor, and unlicensed driver, a traffic infraction.
Pursuant to New York State Law, Mr. Brodowski was issued appearance tickets, directing him to appear in Chatham Town Court at a later date.

Mr. Brodowski was previously arrested July 20 at 4:30 p.m. for stealing a car in the Village of Chatham.
Columbia County 911 dispatched deputies to the village for a report of a man attempting to gain entry into several parked vehicles. Later identified as Mr. Brodowski, the man reportedly gained entry to one vehicle, a 2018 Mercedes Benz, which had the keys in it, and he allegedly took off with it. Sheriff’s deputies quickly converged on the area, and spotted the stolen vehicle traveling south on State Route 66 in Ghent. After he initially failed to pull over, deputies were subsequently able to successfully stop the vehicle, and took Mr. Brodowski, the sole occupant, into custody.
He was charged with third degree grand larceny, a class D felony; third degree criminal mischief, a class E felony; third degree unlawfully fleeing a police officer in a motor vehicle, a class A misdemeanor; second degree aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, a class U misdemeanor, and unlicensed driver, a traffic infraction.
He was arraigned before Justice James Borgia-Forster in Chatham Town Court, and was released on his own recognizance. He was due to reappear in court at a later date.
Investigating for the Sheriff’s Office were Sergeant Heath Benansky, Deputies Ryen Boehme and Daniel Keyser.
Sheriff Bartlett praised the police work by responding deputies, who were able to quickly locate this stolen vehicle, and arrest the person responsible for stealing it.
The sheriff reminds people to lock their vehicles, do not leave valuables in their vehicles, and to take their key or fob with them when they leave their vehicle.
