ALBANY – During his daily briefing on Monday, Governor Cuomo announced that the requirements for masks to be worn will be relaxed this Wednesday, May 19. The announcement came on the heels of a plea by Hudson Valley county executives to Cuomo to ease the restrictions.
The Wednesday change, according to Cuomo, will have New York following the CDC’s new mask and social distancing guidelines for fully vaccinated residents.
Statewide mask mandates will still be in effect under certain circumstances including healthcare facilities, and public transportation systems.
Ulster County Executive Patrick Ryan called the governor’s announcement “a critical step forward in our efforts to responsibly reopen our communities, our schools, and our businesses; and to bring back a sense of normalcy.”
Ryan also said it is “essential” that all residents be vaccinated. “This positive progress in reopening is because of the work of the over 100,000 residents in our community (Ulster County) who have done their part to get vaccinated.”
