KINDERHOOK—A speeding vehicle tried to outrun police, crashed and then its occupants fled on foot, according to a press release from the Sheriff’ Office.
Deputy Jason Garvey saw a vehicle on State Route 9H traveling at 77 mph, July 24 at 7:51 p.m.
As the deputy attempted to catch up to the vehicle and stop it, the vehicle accelerated and failed to comply. The vehicle then crashed in the Kinderhook roundabout and became disabled.
The four people inside the vehicle got out and ran away on foot, fleeing into the wooded area behind the CVS store in Kinderhook. Several deputies and state troopers responded to the area, and subsequently found all four people in the woods. After and investigation, two of the subjects were released and not charged, and the two others were arrested.
The driver of the vehicle, Juliusron J. Robles, 21, of Albany was charged with: unlawfully fleeing police in a motor vehicle, a class A misdemeanor; aggravated unlicensed operation of motor vehicle, class U misdemeanor; speeding (77/55); fail to keep right; failure to obey a police officer; no license plate; moved from lane unsafely; unlicensed operator; and leaving scene of a property damage accident.
A passenger in the vehicle, Reuben N. Sangster, 20, of Albany was charged with seventh degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, a class A misdemeanor; second degree unlawful possession of marijuana.
Both defendants were issued tickets returnable in Kinderhook Town Court at a later date.
