SHERIFF’S OFFICE INVESTIGATES PERSONAL INJURY TRACTOR TRAILER ACCIDENT
Kinderhook, NY- Columbia County Sheriff David P. Bartlett reports that at about 4:18 pm today, Columbia County 911 dispatched Sheriff’s Deputies to an overturned 18 wheel tractor trailer on State Route 203, just east of County Route 21B, in the Town of Kinderhook.
Deputies found that a 2001 Kenworth tractor and flatbed trailer, operated by 29 year old Kristian L. Halvorsen of Dalton Massachusetts, was traveling in a easterly direction on State Route 203 and while he was negotiating a corner, the right side tires left the roadway causing the tractor trailer to overturn on the south side of the highway.
The operator had leg injuries and had to be extricated from the truck by multiple Fire Departments and Valatie Rescue Squad. Mr. Halvorsen was airlifted by Lifenet to Albany Medical Center.There were no passengers in the tractor trailer.
The tractor trailer is registered to Berkshire Heavy Haulers Inc. from Pittsfield Massachusetts and the tractor trailer was hauling a cement deck structure used for parking garages. The structure was bound for Queens New York.
The accident is still under investigation and State Route 203 is still closed while a tow agency works to remove the tractor trailer and cement deck.
Valatie Rescue Squad, Niverville Fire Department, Valatie Fire Department, Ghent Fire Department, V/O Chatham Fire Department, East Chatham Fire Department, Greenport Fire Department, Columbia County Fire Coordinator’s Office, Columbia County Emergency Management, State Police, and NYS DOT all assisted at the scene.
Investigating for the Sheriff’s Office were Sheriff David Bartlett, Lieutenant Wayne Lopez, Sergeant Eli Fieser, Sergeant Heath Benansky, K9 Deputy Jason Garvey, Deputy Jordan Brahm and Deputy Timothy Roberts.
