DOMESTIC ASSAULT LEADS TO RAPE CHARGES

Chatham, NY- Sheriff David P. Bartlett reports that 24 year old Jason A. Delamater of Maple Avenue Claverack, NY has been arrested and charged with Rape in the First Degree and Assault in the Third Degree.

On May 14, 2020 at approximately 4:25pm, Sheriff’s Deputies were dispatched by Columbia County 911 for a reported assault in progress, which was occurring in a vehicle alongside the roadway on County Route 28A in the Town of Kinderhook.Upon Deputies arriving in the area, they were able to locate the vehicle along with the parties involved in the incident.

An investigation was initiated and revealed that Delamater had been assaulting a female in the car.It was at that time that the victim disclosed that she was also sexually assaulted by Delamater at a separate location prior to the incident in the car.

The Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigative Branch joined the investigation and were able to identify a location in the Town of Chatham where the sexual assault occurred.Mr. Delamater was transported back to the Sheriff’s Office where he was interviewed by Investigators and subsequently made admissions regarding both the assaults.

The victim was transported from the County Route 28A scene by Valatie Rescue Squad to St. Peter’s Hospital in Albany for treatment of injuries sustained during the assaults and was later released.

Jason Delamater was arrested and charged with Rape in the First Degree (Class B Felony) for the incident that occurred in the town of Chatham and Assault in the Third Degree (Class A Misdemeanor) for the incident that occurred in the town of Kinderhook.

Mr. Delamater was arraigned before Judge David Dellehunt and released after posting $1,500 in bail.He is scheduled to appear in court at a later date.

The Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the New York State Police and the Columbia County District Attorney’s Office.Investigating for the Sheriff’s Office was Senior Investigator Kevin Skype, Investigators Kris Bauhoff and William Dunspaugh and Deputies John Sullivan and Travis VanAlystne.
