SHERIFF’S OFFICE HAS NEW DARE DEPUTY SHERIFF
Columbia County Sheriff David Bartlett announces that Deputy Sheriff Samantha Plass graduated from the D.A.R.E. instructor program at the yearly graduation at the Montour Falls Fire Academy on January 24th, 2020.This year, 27 officers received their certifications to become instructors in the D.A.R.E. program.
D.A.R.E. stands for Drug, Abuse, Resistance, Education.During the two week course, the officers learn the program’s curriculum which they will eventually teach at our local schools.D.A.R.E.’s elementary, middle and high school curricula touches on the subjects that include bullying, internet safety and over-the-counter prescription drug and opiate abuse.The program looks to teach kids in school how to make safe life choices in regards to things like drugs and violence.
Sheriff Bartlett states, “I want to congratulate Deputy Plass on becoming a D.A.R.E. instructor.I am a big supporter of the D.A.R.E. program which I know helps build trust between Deputy Sheriffs and the community”.
