NORTHEASTERN COLUMBIA COUNTY WAS UNDER

A TORNADO WARNING FOR AROUND 20 MINUTES

WEDNESDAY AFTERNOON. THE NATIONAL WEATHER

SERVICE CANCELLED THE WARNING AROUND 3:45.

ALTHOUGH THERE WAS NO TORNADO, YESTERDAY'S

WEATHER WAS RESPONSIBLE FOR OVER A DOZEN

REPORTS OF TREES AND WIRES DOWN.

ACCIDENTS KEPT FIRE AND RESCUE CREWS BUSY

ON WEDNESDAY. HUDSON HAD TWO, JUST FIVE

MINUTES APART. THEY WERE ON THE 400 BLOCK

OF STATE STREET AND AT THE CORNER OF GREEN

AND FREDERICK STREETS.

IN GREENPORT TWO CARS COLLIDED ON ROUTE 9G

AT COUNTY ROUTE 14. THE FORCE OF THE CRASH

SENT ONE CAR INTO A FIELD.

ACCIDENTS IN GREENE COUNTY WERE ON LAKESIDE

DRIVE IN LEEDS AND CARTER BRIDGE ROAD IN

GREENVILLE.

FOUR FIRE COMPANIES WERE CALLED TO A HOME

ON WOODS ROAD IN GERMANTOWN LAST NIGHT,

AFTER IT BEGAN FILLING WITH SMOKE.

THE PROBLEM WAS TRACED TO A CLOGGED

FURNACE. THE BUILDING WAS VENTILATED

BEFORE BEING TURNED OVER TO NATIONAL

GRID.

A UTILITY TRUCK CAUGHT FIRE WEDNESDAY

AFTERNOON IN HILLSDALE. CREWS WERE ON

THE SCENE ON SCHMEICHEL ROAD FOR OVER TWO

HOURS. THE TRUCK NEEDED TO BE TOWED.

BRAKES ON A GARBAGE TRUCK CAUGHT FIRE

ON COUNTY ROUTE 8 IN ANCRAM YESTERDAY.

THE FIRE SPREAD TO THE TRUCK BEFORE IT

WAS DECLARED OUT, ABOUT 2 AND 1/2 HOURS

LATER.

A TRAFFIC STOP ON COUNTY ROUTE 27 IN

CLAVERACK ENDED WITH TWO HUDSON MEN

FACING CHARGES. 28 YEAR OLD JAMES SWANIGAN

WAS CHARGED BY STATE POLICE WITH CRIMINAL

POSSESSION OF A WEAPON. AND 30 YEAR OLD

STEPHEN STRICKLAND WAS CHARGED WITH

CRIMINAL POSSESSION OF A CONTROLLED

SUBSTANCE. POLICE SAY, THEY RECOVERED

COCAINE.
