Governor Andrew Cuomo says he disagrees with the way Columbus Day was taken off of New York City's school calendar.

He argues while it's important to honor indigenous people, it shouldn't come at the expense of honoring Italian Americans. New York City public school officials removed Columbus Day and instead put Italian Heritage -slash- Indigenous People's Day. Meanwhile, New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio also says he disagrees with the process, adding he was unaware of the calendar change.
