Miley Cyrus Drops Breakup Song 'Slide Away' After Liam Hemsworth Split

Tell us how you really feel, Miley Cyrus!

Like a bolt from the blue, the singer released a new record Friday (August 16) entitled "Slide Away," and it sounds like she's venting about her recent split from husband Liam Hemsworth. And like most good breakup songs, Cyrus draws her lyrics on real heartbreak.

"Once upon a time, it was paradise/ Once upon a time, I was paralyzed," the 26-year-old opens, "Think I'm gonna miss these harbor lights/ But it's time to let it go."

Some fans speculate the "harbor lights" mention is a reference to Sydney Harbour, which is located in Hemsworth's native Australia. The same allusion of wanting to let go of this ocean "paradise" is apparent all throughout the chorus as well, as Cyrus sings: "So won't you slide away/ Back to the ocean, I'll go back to the city lights."

Another obvious reference: "Move on, we're not 17/ I'm not who I used to be. You say that everything's changed/ You're right, we're grown now." You can recall, the longtime lovers met as teens while filming The Last Song in 2009.

Cyrus and Hemsworth, who wed in December 2018, announced their separation on Sunday (August 11). Since then, the Australian actor and songbird have released respective statements about the situation. "Don’t fight evolution, because you will never win … change is inevitable," she wrote on Instagram, as Hemsworth responded wishing Cyrus "nothing but happiness" amid their split.

As you know, the "Wrecking Ball" star was caught kissing Brody Jenner's ex-wife Kaitlynn Carter during their Italian getaway around the time Cyrus' breakup made headlines. Since pulling the plug on their marriages this year, TMZ reports Carter and the "Cattitude" musician are carrying on a no-labels-attached romance.
