Two weeks ago tonight, it was decided at the regular Greene County Legislature meeting, that they would reach out to the state to see if they would be changing a state law, that currently prohibits two counties from sharing a jail.
At tonight's special meeting it was announced that what was received from the Governor's office, was that they would take no stand on the matter and left it up to local counties to decide.
It was also announced that no reply was received from the State Assembly and Senate.
With those conclusions, it was announced that construction on the new Greene County Jail would proceed as scheduled, with a possible groundbreaking the week of June 10th.
Opponents of a Greene County jail were not happy with that news and began chanting, before they eventually left the chambers.
Those in favor of the jail also chanted "build the jail".
