School bus involved in accident

DEPUTY SHERIFFS INVESTIGATE SCHOOL BUS ACCIDENT IN COPAKE

Copake, NY- Columbia County Sheriff David P. Bartlett reports that on January 2, 2019 at approximately 7:28am, Deputy Sheriffs were dispatched by Columbia County 911 to a two vehicle personal injury accident involving a school bus on State Route 22, just south of Lackawanna Road in the Town of Copake.

Deputies found that a 2012 Dodge Charger, operated by 34 year old Jeremy Cianciosi of Copake NY, was driving northbound on State Route 22 and struck the back of a stopped school bus in the northbound lane of travel. The bus, a 2011 Freightliner operated by 67 year old Maureen Hiserodt of Ancram NY, was stopped to pick up students. At the time of the collision, the red lights were flashing on the bus.

Mr. Cianciosi sustained injuries to his face, mouth and hand. He was transported to Albany Medical Center by Community Rescue Squad.

The school bus was occupied by 15 students, one Taconic Hills School staff member, and the bus driver. Ms. Hiserodt complained of soreness from the impact, but was not transported. The students and one staff member did not report any injuries and all the occupants were transferred to another bus.

The investigation is continuing at this time and tickets are possible.

Community Rescue Squad, Copake Fire Department, and Ancram Fire Department assisted at the scene.
