Veterans Repertory Theater (VetRep) will hold its first annual Savage Wonder Festival of Veterans in the Arts from 12pm - 10pm on Sunday, May 29, 2022, at the Sugar Loaf Performing Arts Center in Sugar Loaf, NY. Born out of the podcast and literary blog of the same name, the Savage Wonder Festival will feature professional performing and visual artists who are military veterans. All proceeds will benefit four local non-profit veteran organizations: Clear Path 4 Veterans, Blue Star Families, YIT Foundation, and VetRep.
In September 2021, VetRep Founder and Artistic Director, Chris Meyer, created the Savage Wonder podcast and literary blog, where he found compelling backstories of tragedy, struggle, perseverance, and triumph coupled with unique and extraordinary talent. Motivated to bring veteran-artists together, VetRep developed a more public showcase—a sort of “Lollapalooza for veterans in the arts.”
Advance free tickets are available through March 31, 2022, afterwards admission will range up to $20 per ticket. Meyer stated, “Memorial Day weekend is charged with lots of emotion—excitement for the coming of summer, sorrow when reflecting on those who have died for our freedoms, and sometimes frustration between these two. I believe the Savage Wonder Festival creates a balance by celebrating the lives of those who are gone, listening to those who are still here, and supporting veterans into the future through the work of our beneficiaries.”
