ALBANY – The COVID-19 pandemic continues to impact the economy.
January unemployment in Sullivan County stood at 6.9 percent in January when compared to the same month in 2020, the State Labor Department reported. That compared with 4.1 percent a year earlier.
Sullivan had the highest rate in the region while Columbia County, with 5.5 percent, was the lowest. That county’s January rate compared with 3.7 percent one year earlier.
Greene, Ulster and Westchester each had 6.7 percent rates of joblessness in January, while Orange County stood at 6.6 percent.
Dutchess and Rockland each stood at 6.1 percent and Putnam County’s joblessness rate was 5.8 percent.
