CLAVERACK – State Police have arrested two men on felony drug charges following a traffic stop on the Taconic State Parkway in the Town of Claverack.
The driver, Rashard Garnett, 32, of New York City, and Marcus Johnson, 20, of North Adams, Massachusetts were both charged with felony drug possession.
While interviewing the men a probable cause was developed to search their 2014 Mercedes Benz. When troopers found a bag containing some 97.5 grams of cocaine, Garnett took off on foot into nearby woods.
The Troop K Bloodhound handler and his partner, Tilly, were requested to the scene and located Garnett shortly thereafter. He was taken into custody without further incident.
Both men were arraigned virtually and released on their own recognizance pending a future court appearance.
