Latest on industrial accident last month at the ADM Milling Company

The Sheriff’s Office along with the Columbia-Greene Technical Rescue Team, which is assisted by the New York State Forest Rangers, and with the assistance and cooperation from ADM Milling and staff, recovered the body of Kenneth Pierce, 52, of Ghent, January 29.

Mr. Pierce was the man who was killed in an industrial accident at the ADM Milling Company, 201 State Route 23B, January 28.

He was a laborer and lead man at the flour mill for many years, according to his obituary which appears on Page 23 of this issue.

The accident was initially reported as “a person in cardiac arrest in an elevator chute.” The incident did not involve foul play and was “a tragic accident,” according to the Sheriff’s Office press release. Accident details have not been released.

Coroner Daniel Herrick assisted with the investigation. An autopsy was performed at Ellis Hospital, January 30.

Columbia County Sheriff’s Office Public Information Officer Wayne Lopez said he did not have the autopsy results, February 5.
