Taconic Hills Substitute teacher, coach, sentenced

23 year old Christopher Macarthur of Claverack was sentenced today, after his guilty plea on criminal sex act charges.The Columbia County D.A.’s Office says he was given 6 months in the Columbia County Jail and 10 years probation.

On June 12, 2019, Christopher McArthur, age 23, of Claverack, waived indictment, was arraigned, and was convicted by plea of Criminal Sex Act in the Third Degree, Hon. Richard M. Koweek presiding.

The defendant, a substitute teacher and volleyball coach at Taconic Hills Central School, committed the crime in the Town of Claverack.

The Columbia County Court will sentence Christopher MacArthur on August 12, 2019. Columbia County Sheriff David P. Bartlett’s Office (Sr. Inv. Mark Dunspaugh) investigated this matter and arrested Christopher MacArthur. ADA Krista Kline prosecuted. Michael Howard, Esq. represents Christopher MacArthur.

SHERIFF’S OFFICE ARRESTS 23 YEAR OLD TEACHER FOR SEX CRIME

Claverack, NY- Sheriff David P. Bartlett reports that Sheriff’s Office Investigators arrested Christopher MacArthur, 23, of Claverack, NY on Monday April 8, 2019 at 1:54pm. Mr. MacArthur has been charged with Criminal Sexual Act in the third degree, a Class E Felony under the NYS Penal Law.

The Taconic Hills School Sheriff’s Office School Resource Deputy Cindy Madison was contacted on April 7, 2019 by an individual reporting that Mr. MacArthur was having a sexual relationship with a person who is under the age of seventeen. Sheriff’s Office Investigators from the Special Victims Unit immediately began the investigation. The investigation revealed that Mr. MacArthur had been involved in a sexual relationship with a person less than 17 years old for the past several months.

Mr. MacArthur is employed by the Taconic Hills School District as a Substitute Teacher and as a Varsity Volley Ball coach.

The Sheriff’s Office will not release any information that could possibly be used to identify the victim.

Mr. MacArthur was arraigned before Judge Michael Brandon in Claverack Town Court and was released on his own recognizance. He is scheduled to appear back in court on May 21, 2019 at 6:30pm.
