Greenport firefighters were called to Mirror Image hair salon at 431 Fairview Avenue Tuesday morning just after 9:30 for reports of smoke coming from a crawl space.
Quick work by firemen contained the damage to a back wall and porch.
Fire officials say it was caused by an improperly disposed cigarette.
Crews were on the scene for an hour. There were no reported injuries.
