Craryville man indicted on kidnapping charges

From Columbia County D.A.'s Office:

On August 2, 2019, Thomas Golden was arraigned in Count Court upon being indicted for Kidnapping in the 2nd Degree; Unlawful Imprisonment in the 1st Degree; Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the 3rd Degree; and Criminal Obstruction of Breathing, Honorable Jonathan D. Nichols presiding.

The Court scheduled a trial for March 2, 2020. The New York State Police investigated this matter and arrested Thomas Golden. The Public Defender represents Thomas Golden. Thomas Golden is presumed to be innocent unless and until the People can prove his guilt beyond a reasonable doubt to all twelve (12) of twelve (12) jurors. (Indictment No. 19-028)

PRESS RELEASE

Hillsdale, New York – On July 9, 2019, the New York State Police from the Livingston barracks arrested Thomas P. Golden, age 35, of Copake, NY, for Kidnapping 2nd Degree, a class B felony, and Criminal Obstruction of Breathing, a class A misdemeanor.

On July 8, 2019, at approximately 9:30 p.m., Troopers responded to a domestic dispute on Whippoorwhill Road in the Town of Hillsdale. A subsequent investigation determined that Golden had used physical force, and threatened the use of deadly force, to abduct the victim. Both the victim and Golden were familiar with one another.

After several hours in captivity the victim was able to flee to safety, and contacted the State Police. Golden was found and taken into custody at an address located on Route 23 in the town of Copake.

Golden was arraigned before the town of Claverack Court, and remanded by the Honorable Justice Brandon to the Columbia County Jail without bail. Golden was ordered to next appear in the town of Hillsdale Court on July 12, 2019, at 6:00 p.m.
