American Red Cross Aids Six After Catskill Fire

POUGHKEEPSIE, NY (MAY 2, 2019) - Volunteers from the Mid-Hudson Valley Chapter of the American Red Cross provided immediate emergency aid to four people after a fire Thursday afternoon on Main Street in Catskill, Greene County.

The Red Cross provided financial assistance for necessities such as shelter, food and clothing to two adults and four children, ages 4, 12, 13, and 14. Volunteers also offered emotional support and comfort kits containing personal care items and stuffed animals for the children. In the coming days, Red Cross staff and volunteers will remain available to help those affected by the fire as they navigate the road to recovery.

Fire broke out Thursday afternoon in a Catskill apartment. The call came in around 1:45, for reported smoke in the building.

Arriving units reported a working structure in the first floor apartment at 477 Main Street.

Crews were able to put the fire out quickly. We've received no reports of injuries.

Hudson firefighters responded mutual aid. We're told the fire was in the kitchen.

A section of Main Street was closed to traffic.
