Catskill man arrested for cashing stolen checks

The New York State Police Latham Bureau of Criminal Investigation (BCI) arrested 36-year-old Peter T. Backlund of Catskill, NY for several counts of the Class D Felony of Criminal Possession of a Forged Instrument 2nd and Class A Misdemeanors of Petit Larceny, Criminal Possession of Stolen Property 5th and Identity Theft 3rd. 

An investigation was initiated by the City of Saratoga Springs Police Department following a complaint by the victim, residing in Saratoga Springs, NY, who discovered $1,870.00 missing from her checking account. Saratoga Springs PD identified Backlund as the suspect, and determined that he had cashed checks belonging to the victim which contained forged signatures, at several different locations outside of Saratoga Springs. Saratoga Springs PD turned the case over to NYSP, who arrested Backlund on April 29th.

Backlund faces charges related to this case in the City of Cohoes, Town of Colonie, Town of Niskayuna and Town of Clifton Park.

Backlund was processed at SP Latham and was arraigned in the Cohoes City Court where he was released to appear on future dates at courts covering the above locations.
