Greene County man going to prison for fatal accident

ALBANY, NY -  District Attorney P. David Soares announced today that ALEX HAMILTON, 23, of Hannacroix, NY, was sentenced to 1 to 3 years in State Prison, before the Honorable William A. Carter in Albany County Court this morning. 

Additionally, HAMILTON will be subject to a minimum 6 month license revocation subject to the determinations of the New York State Department of Motor Vehicles, and the installation of an Ignition Interlock Device upon release.

On December 5, 2018, HAMILTON pleaded guilty to (1) Count of Vehicular Manslaughter in the Second Degree, a Class D Felony.

On September 2, 2018, at approximately 11:51 P.M., on County Route 403 in the Town of Westerlo, HAMILTON operated his motorcycle while intoxicated and crashed into a utility pole, which caused the death of 23-year-old passenger Leanna Rose Prudhomme, of Berne. An investigation discovered HAMILTON had consumed several alcoholic beverages throughout the day prior to the crash. A blood analysis test result revealed HAMILTON’s blood alcohol content to be .08 percent when taken two hours after the crash.

Vehicular Crimes Bureau Chief Mary Tanner- Richter and Assistant District Attorney David Szalda prosecuted this case.
